First Day of School

Carla started attending school at our church on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-1pm.  Her teacher Mrs. Suzy is this wonderful, loving woman who is a mother to three kids and she has a degree in education from UT.  She seriously is amazing!  When we visited last week I was in complete amazement that she could get a group of toddlers to put away all the toys, wash their own hands, sit together at a table for snack time, and get the kids to clean up after themselves.  How did she do that?  Clearly, I now see how capable toddlers are!

Today was her first day to attend.  I was nervous but I was mostly just feeling nervous for Carla.  I didn't want to see her upset.  Well, that wasn't even an issue.  We walked into the classroom and she ran to play with the sensory table filled with dried beans.  She didn't even look up at me when I said goodbye.  I left the room and watched her for a bit from the window and she was happily playing.  So off I went feeling relieved!

When I came to pick her up she was still playing at the same table with the dried beans just as happy as can be.  Again, she hardly even looked up when I said hello to her.  The report from her teacher was glowing!  She said Carla was happy, independent, and adventurous.  At the playground she immediately ran off to start climbing things.  She was really into the trucks and playing in the sand.  She didn't eat her snack but ate most of her lunch.  She created a finger painting.  And the only time she cried was when she got bonked with the swing on the playground.

The rest of the day at home she was just so pleasant and sweet!  She took a nice long afternoon nap, played at the park with Leo, had lots of cuddle time on the sofa, ate a good dinner, and then was off to bed early by 7:15pm.

I'm really hoping this isn't beginners luck because this seemed way to easy.  I have been warned that days 3 or 4 can be the hardest so my fingers are crossed!

  1. Yay Carla!!!!!! It is really nice to be able to drop them off and not have them cry. I haven't experienced the cry yet and hope that it doesn't come. Have fun with your "free" time. :)
