1st Birthday Party

The Birthday Star!

On Saturday we had a big birthday bash at our house celebrating Carla Ann's 1st birthday!  The theme was a combo of "When You Wish Upon a Star" and teddy bears - combining two of her favorite things right now.  Thanks to everyone who came out to make the day special!  There were babies and kids every which way.  It was pure chaos and so much fun!  Now the big highlight of the party (for me) was seeing how she was going to react to the cake.  Of course, I had to go all out on the design.  The inspiration was her giant pink bear that she loves to hug.  It took a full day to hand carve and decorate but the reaction on her face once it was done was priceless.  She was all smiles.  And she recognized it as a bear.  Success!  She loved it while everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to her.  Now when it came time to eat the cake she didn't know what to think.  She did lots of smearing the frosting around and eventually threw her cupcake on the ground.
