As the summer has been warming up our air conditioner unit has been getting louder and louder. It's been keeping a cool temp so we weren't in a hurry to get it checked out. But when our next door neighbor stopped by to gently point out that our air conditioner sure was making a bunch of racket we decided it was time. We had someone come out who basically said our 20-year old unit needed to be replaced and they could do it for $6,000. Yikes! We had a second opinion and they said all it needed was a new motor and capacitor. We went with the second opinion for the bargain price of $700. Sweet!
The next day the house felt a little warm. Hmmm. When we checked the thermostat it was registering at 75 degrees even though we had it set at 72. Uh oh! The unit was humming but the fan wasn't spinning. Frank reset the breaker box. The fan started spinning and cool air was coming out the vents. Hooray! But an hour later the fan stopped spinning again. Boo! And, of course, this has to happen over the weekend. Double boo!
Today they were able to make it back out and get it all fixed again. It ended up being an easy fix - it needed a different voltage capacitor.
We survived the heat by getting out of the house as much as possible and taking lots of cool baths while we were at home. We are most grateful to have a working A/C again!
