We flew into Chicago to see Cousin Patti and Aunt Pat. We were lucky enough to be there to help Aunt Pat celebrate her 80th birthday at a surprise luncheon! They live super close to the airport so the constant coming and going of planes provided lots of entertainment. Since they can't have dogs in their condo Aunt Pat had several dog stuffed animals that Carla got to carry around and love on. Carla was quite attached to Cousin Patti and the first thing she said when she woke up was, "Patti!"
Then Carla and I were off to Waukesha with Frank's parents which is just a 2 hour drive from Chicago while my mom stayed back with the Pats. Now it was cold there! I'm talking like in the 30s. For us Texas girls when it gets that cold we stay at home all bundled up drinking hot chocolate. Not for the Wisconsin folk! They had us going to the zoo, playing at the park, going on walks, and feeding the ducks at the river. Amazingly, if you bundle up enough you actually CAN do stuff outside when it's that cold! Truth be told, Carla was not affected by the cold one bit and, in fact, kept asking to go outside. It was just her momma who is a wimp in the cold. We had a great time - lots of playing and eating good food and taking long naps - it was the life!
Grandpa is a bit of a workout-a-holic! He walks, cross country skis, swims, does yoga, Zumba, and the list goes on. He's getting Carla Ann started early on her own exercise routine...
The day before we left Carla started having a terrible stomach bug with the most awful case of the runs. Ugh! My worst fear was her having an episode on our plane trip back. Thankfully someone was looking out for us. She had an episode right before we got on the plane and right after. Phew!
We had a great time and we send a huge thank you to our families for having us!
What a good traveller you are Carla!!!
