Pediatric Ophthalmologist
Carla Ann had her appointment with a pediatric ophthalmologist to get her eyes checked. To refresh your memory, a couple months ago I noticed this little line in her pupil and her pediatrician made a referral to get it checked out. It is hardly noticeable and it kind of looks like there is an eyelash in her eye.
At her appointment they dilated her eyes. She was not happy about getting the drops in her eyes. After waiting about 45 minutes for the dilation she was pretty cranky at this point. She was hungry and tired. You can imagine what she thought about the eye exam when it came time for that! The doctor used all kinds of toys, sounds, and even foot activated puppets and movies as distractions. He was good and fast but in Carla's opinion just not fast enough.
He said she has posterior synechia in her right eye with the tiniest little cataract at 2 o'clock. The synechia would have happened in utero when her eyes were forming around 6 weeks. He said it's not genetic (even though cataracts do run on Frank's side of the family). What does this mean? Well, basically nothing at this point. Her vision seems fine. We will go back in a year for another check-up. Now, don't do what I just did which is google "posterior synechia." Yikes! I'm just going to take the advice of the doctor which is not to worry about this.

Anybody can get cataracts...especially when you age. Once spoke to my Aunt Virginia about "floaters". Sometimes when you are older, it seems like little spots are in your eyes. Mine went away after about six months. Auntie thought it was really something serious, and drew a picture of what it looked like for the doctor. The doctor thought it was pretty funny.
